Nazir Abad mixed middle school
There are currently 813 girls and 556 boys in the school (totally 1,368 students) - excluding long term absentees. Originally, it was a girls’ school, but lack of a boys’ school in the area made it necessary to absorb the 556 boys. The girls receive education in the morning and the boys in the afternoon.
Five classes take place in temporary, dilapidated wooden barracks. In addition, 12 classes - 8 girls’ and 4 boys’ classes have to take place in open air.
About a quarter of the girls graduating from grade 9 are not allowed by their families to continue education in a high school, as the nearest one is considered too far away. The Nazir Abad school has received permission from MOE to include high school classes, but does not have sufficient classroom space.
DAARTT is constructing a 16 classroom school building. This will make it possible to include high school education. Teaching will have to take place in two shifts, but in conditions that will eliminate open air classes and support quality of education.
